Resident Evil
Realms of ruin Oct 24th and 25th Custer park, IL.

Weather 45 and drizzly Saturday clearing to cloudy 55 and sunny on Sunday.

Numbers were around 225 which is pretty solid for a late October game in the Midwest.

Field conditions: sandy soil allowed for good drainage so the field wasn’t slippery or muddy. The water feature in the middle of the field was too high to cross without using the bridges so that made for some bottlenecked encounters but those firefights are the most fun. The field also had varied terrain which made for excellent opportunities to move around the field and get into all sorts of firefights. Air fills were a bit disappointing, we were promised 4000 fills all weekend but the second day only got 3000 fills.

General “Mac” from team Nightshade gave Wild Bunch orders to take the laboratory (across the river and into the back of the field) and hold it for ten minutes, we encountered little to no resistance. We then took the hospital (cinder block bunkers in a clearing along the left flank of the field) and proceeded to assault the red team’s base. Wild Bunch received almost all of the missions the entire two days of play and successfully completed all but three. Most of day one was spent assaulting the red base or invading their territory over and over without much opposition able to stand in our way, the third team (the zombies) were even added to the red team in order to balance the game. Once again the laws proved invaluable at taking out the tank or destroying bunkers. Wild Bunch continued dominating the field of play on day two with orders to take and hold the center bridge for the first mission of the day. At the end of the game the blue team led by 300 points – 1250 to 950 – the final battle would determine the winner and sadly due to a misinterpretation of the rules by our ref and two injuries on the blue team that took place with two minutes left in the game which forced stoppage of play the blue team would not win the final battle leaving us 200 points short of the win. Wild Bunch took home the most feared team as well as the most valuable team and our own Darrin Johnson won the most valuable player for his ‘go anywhere, do anything’ attitude. A good time as had by all.

Special thanks to Rarebreed paintball team that put on the event and played the role of zombies during the game.
